Before telling you about our new variety, 'Cleopatra Red,' we want to tell you more about the unique canna 'Cleopatra.'
Cleopatra is an unstable mutation, or what is known as a chimera. It is the only canna we know of that grows like this. It can grow differently from season to season. It most often has foliage in one of four ways:
Solid green foliage
Green foliage with random markings of red
Solid red foliage
Solid red foliage with random markings of green (very rare)
The different blooms that Cleopatra produces are:
Solid yellow (often on a plant with solid green foliage)
Mixture of red and yellow (often a plant with green foliage/random markings of red)
Solid red (plant with solid red foliage)
While we cannot tell how the plant will grow when we ship a rhizome, we select only green/bronze foliage for all live plant shipments.
So, what do we do with the solid red Cleopatra plants growing beautifully in the greenhouse? We decided they are just too stunning not to share with you! They have large red blooms with solid bronze foliage. Visitors to the farm always rave about them! We have never offered them to our online community, but that changes today. Shop Cleopatra Red now. Quantities are limited!
Our other piece of news: we have been working on a new YouTube video for you. It is finally ready! Leafrollers are only present in parts of the United States, so this video is most helpful for those living in coastal areas between Texas and the east coast, including the southern and midwestern states. Leafrollers can be quite a nuisance, so we hope this video is helpful to you!
